Thatched Roofs That Rain Cats & Dogs

Today it is “raining cats and dogs’ and it made me remember something that I once read.  Because thatched roofs are excellent insulators against both heat and cold weather, cats and dogs frequently burrowed into them.  On days like today, when the rain was non stop, the animals would fall through the roofs into the houses below.  That is how the expression “raining cats and dogs” originated.
