How to Build an Obelisk

Tools and Materials List:

  • 4 5-foot lengths of redwood or cedar 2x2s (A)
  • 14 feet of 1×2 cedar or redwood (B, C, D, and E)
  • countersink drill bit
  • protractor
  • circular or table saw
  • heavy-duty construction adhesive
  • 24 2-inch deck screws
  • power screwdriver with no. 2 Phillips bit
  • tape measure
  • scrap wood and nails for tacking
  • fine-grit sandpaper
  • If finishing: One pint wood preservative or stain
  • If painting: One pint exterior latex paint, one pint oil-base exterior primer, brushes, paint thinner, scrap wood, and spare nails for tacking
